Medusa — a SuperTrend, done properly

2026-06-20

Hey 👋

This is the first proper note on the site, so I figured I'd start with the tool most of you found me through — Medusa.

Medusa is a SuperTrend. ATR based, with trend continuation rules. The defaults are tuned for BTC 30min, but everything is adjustable, so don't treat my settings as gospel — change them to your pairs and timeframes.

How it reads the trend

Green Supertrend with the soft bullish fill means bias stays long and you look for continuation setups. Red means bias stays defensive or short. That's it. No clutter, no twelve confirmations fighting each other.

The BUY and SELL labels only print when the trend actually flips — not every candle. That's deliberate. Most SuperTrends spit out a label on every little wiggle and chop you to bits. Medusa only marks the real changes.

The one setting that matters

Here's the bit people miss: wait for the candle to close.

Signals confirm on bar close — Medusa is non-repainting on closed bars. So when you set an alert, pick "Once Per Bar Close" instead of "Once Per Bar". A wick that pokes through mid-candle won't fake you out, because the bar hasn't closed yet. Set it the right way and the alert only fires on a confirmed flip.

How I use it

I pair it with momentum. Medusa tells me the bias; something like WidowMaker helps me time the entry with the trend instead of fighting it. Trend tool for the direction, momentum tool for the timing.

It's 100% free and open-source on TradingView. Use it, break it, tell me what you'd change — that's genuinely how the next version gets better.
